Holiday lighting for communities and multi-building sites

Christmas Lighting Wholesale sells C9 and mini light supplies in the quantities that multi-building sites run through: 2,000 and 4,000 ft. C9 installation kits, 500-bulb cases, 24-strand mini light cases, clip cases and 4-packs of photocell timers. It's built for HOAs, apartment and townhome communities, office parks, campuses, senior living communities, and the lighting contractors who install for them.

What a multi-building site lights

Rooflines

Clubhouses, leasing offices, amenity buildings and street-facing residential buildings are usually outlined with LED C9 bulbs on socket wire. Large kits cover several buildings from one box; 1,000 ft. socket spools and 500-bulb cases extend any kit.

Entrances and monuments

Entrance walls and monument signs are lit with a short C9 outline, mini lights on the surrounding shrubs, or C9 bulbs on 8 in. light stakes along the beds in front.

Common-area trees

Trees along main drives and in courtyards take LED mini strands. A 24-strand case puts every tree on the property in the same color and wire color.

Walkways

Light stakes hold C9 bulbs on socket wire along paths between buildings and parking areas, at a consistent height above the bed.

Mounting across different buildings

Sites built in phases often have different roofs side by side. Shingle buildings take all-in-one clips, tile roofs take tile and extended fascia clips, metal canopies and carports take magnet clips, and peaks take ridge clips. Order the clip for each roof type with that building's lights so the crew has the right mount on site.

Power on a large site

Each building usually runs from its own outdoor outlets. Plan runs so each one starts near an outlet, use SPT-2 zip cord with male zip plugs for leads that cross a walkway or landscaping, and keep plug connections off the ground. LED C9 bulbs and mini strands draw far less than incandescent, so longer runs share a circuit, but every circuit still has a limit. A photocell timer on each circuit switches the whole site on at dusk and off after the set hours.

Who installs

Some sites have their maintenance staff install the display; others hire a holiday lighting contractor. Either way, the same supplies list works: the materials are ordered once for the site, labeled by building, and reused each season with a small top-up for bulbs and clips.

Adding buildings later

When a new building, entrance or amenity is added, light it to match by ordering the same bulb color temperature, lens style and spacing as the rest of the site. Socket spools let a new building's runs be cut to its exact footage.

A building-by-building takeoff for multi-building sites

On a site with a clubhouse, several residential buildings, an entrance and common-area trees, the order goes wrong in one of two ways: too little of one clip type, or bulbs that don't match from one building to the next. A takeoff sheet, built one building at a time and then totaled, prevents both. Here's how to put one together and turn it into an order.

Step 1: list every building and feature

Walk the site with a site map and give every lit item its own line: each building, the entrance monument, each courtyard tree, each walkway. For each building, record the roofline footage, the roof surface (shingle, tile, metal) and the spacing. Spacing is usually set by viewing distance: 12 in. for buildings people walk up to, like the clubhouse and leasing office, and 15 in. for residential buildings seen from the drive.

Step 2: convert each line to sockets

Sockets are feet × 12 ÷ spacing. An example site:

  • Clubhouse: 240 ft. at 12 in. = 240 sockets, shingle roof
  • Leasing office: 160 ft. at 12 in. = 160 sockets, shingle roof
  • Residential buildings A–D (4 × 220 ft.): 880 ft. at 15 in. = 704 sockets, shingle roof
  • Pool cabana and carports: 300 ft. at 15 in. = 240 sockets, metal roof

That's 1,344 sockets in total: 1,104 on shingle and 240 on metal.

Step 3: total by product, not by building

  • C9 bulbs: 1,344 plus about 3% spare is 3 cases of 500, at $0.638 per bulb by the case.
  • Clips for shingle buildings: 1,160 all-in-one clips with 5% spare, at $0.183 each in a 3,000-case.
  • Clips for metal: 252 magnet clips, at $0.772 each by the case.
  • Common-area trees: 8 trees at about 10 ft. take about 160 mini strands at two per foot of height, or 7 cases of 24 ($10.83 per strand by the case).
  • Walkway: 120 ft. of path with a stake every foot takes about 120 light stakes, $0.800 each in a 250-case.
  • Timers: one per circuit; a 4-case is $43.

Step 4: choose kits or spools for the socket wire

The site's roofline footage can come from large installation kits, which include wire, bulbs, plugs and clips, or from 1,000 ft. socket spools with bulbs and clips ordered separately. Spools fit sites that mix spacing and roof types, because each building's clip and bulb quantities are ordered to its own count. Kits fit sites where most buildings share one spacing.

Step 5: stage by building

When the order arrives, split it back out by the takeoff sheet: one bin or pallet section per building, holding that building's cut runs, its clip type, its plugs and its spare bulbs. Label each run with the building and the edge, such as "Bldg C, south eave." The crew pulls one bin per building and the next season's install starts from the same labels.

Step 6: keep the sheet

Save the takeoff with the color temperature, bulb style and spacing used on each building. When a new building or a new entrance is added later, its line is added to the sheet and ordered to match.

Questions

Can one order cover several buildings?

Yes. Order large kits or spools plus bulb and clip cases for the whole site, then cut runs to each building's footage. Labeling each run by building and edge at install makes the next season's install faster.

Our buildings have different roof types. What clips do we need?

All-in-one clips for shingles and gutters, tile and extended fascia clips for tile roofs, magnet clips for metal roofs and canopies, and ridge clips for peaks. Order each clip type in the quantity of sockets on the buildings that use it.

How do we keep every building the same color?

Pick one color temperature and one bulb style for the whole site and order bulbs and mini strands by the case. Write the choice down so later additions match.

How do we light walkways between buildings?

Run C9 socket wire along the path and hold each socket on an 8 in. light stake. Stakes come in 25-packs and 250-cases.

Can the association pay by card?

Yes. Orders are placed online with a card at checkout. The order confirmation serves as the receipt for the association's records.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders to the contiguous United States, with no order minimum.

How many bulbs do I need for a roofline?

Convert the run length to inches and divide by the socket spacing. A 100 ft. roofline is 1,200 in.; at 12 in. spacing that's 100 sockets and 100 bulbs, and at 15 in. spacing it's 80.

Should I choose 12 in. or 15 in. spacing?

12 in. spacing gives a tighter, brighter line and is common on single-story homes and anything viewed up close. 15 in. spacing uses about 20% fewer bulbs for the same footage and is common on larger homes and commercial rooflines viewed from a distance.

What's in a C9 installation kit?

Kits combine C9 socket wire at the listed length and spacing with LED C9 bulbs to fill the sockets, slide-on plugs to finish the runs and clips to mount them. The options list on each kit shows the bulb colors and clip mix available.

Which clip do I need?

All-in-one clips fit shingles and gutters. Ridge clips mount along roof peaks. Tile and extended fascia clips are for tile roofs and deep fascia boards. Magnet clips hold to metal surfaces, and light stakes place C9 or C7 bulbs along walkways and beds.

What are sun warm, warm, pure and cool white?

They describe color temperature. Sun warm white (about 2600–2800K) is the most amber, closest to incandescent. Warm white (about 2800–3200K) is the traditional soft white. Pure white (about 4000–4200K) is neutral, and cool white (5900K and up) has a blue tint.

Can I return items I don't use?

Yes. Unused, uninstalled product in its original, intact packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Request the return before shipping anything back.
